Our Story
The Barkly Bistro Bar & Accommodation is located in Barkly Street, Ararat at the site of the formerly named Shire Hall Hotel. The building itself was constructed in 1922 making the hotel 100 years old. The site has been occupied by a hotel since the mid 1800’s.
The Barkly is affordable accommodation that retains the charm of the features of the heritage building, with style and your comfort paramount. The accommodation is situated upstairs with newly renovated bedrooms and shared bathrooms. Downstairs guests have access to the dining room, sitting room, and Barkly bar.
Meet your hosts
We are Rob and Sandy your hosts and together with our exceptional team, we aim to provide you with an enjoyable and relaxed stay.
Together we have many years’ experience in hospitality both back of house and front of house. We have run boutique accommodation for over 15 years ranging from serviced apartments in Coogee to Luxury Boutique B&B’s, cafes, and restaurants.

Our mission
Our goal is to deliver a unique experience in our boutique style Bistro, Bar and Accommodation. While we may not offer all the big hotel facilities, we hope that the small touches and boutique surroundings make your stay one to remember.
