About Us
The Barkly Hotel is located in Barkly Street, Ararat at the site of the formerly named Shire Hall Hotel. The building itself was constructed in 1922 making the hotel 100 years old. The site has been occupied by a hotel since the mid 1800’s.
Our aim at the Barkly is to provide a hospitality alternative to both locals and travellers. We aim to deliver this through our unique styling, fresh and concise food options, and a bar stocked with local wines, craft beers and great cocktails.
In addition, we aim to deliver exceptional customer service and value for money. The Barkly is a great choice for small or large groups.
We hope our guests leave feeling uplifted after visiting the Barkly.

Grampians National Park
Located just over an hour from Ararat, explore the natural beauty of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park and hike its world famous trails.
From majestic waterfalls to stunning mountain panoramas, the Grampians is a must-do adventure.
Traditionally known as Gariwerd, this region is home to the largest number of significant and ancient Aboriginal rock art paintings and shelters in southern Australia.

Established in 1968, the Ararat Gallery TAMA (Textile Art Museum Australia) holds a unique place amongst Australia’s public galleries, through its longstanding commitment to textile and fibre art.

The Dogrock Winery, located in Victoria’s Pyrenees region, is an accomplished producer of premium, sustainably produced wines.
Aside from the aim to create sustainably produced wines with limited intervention, Dogrock has absolute quality expectations and a reverence for European wine styles.

Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre
Gum San translates as Gold Mountain and the Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre is literally sitting on the site of the “Gold Mountain” that started Arara’s gold rush.
The Centre tells the story of the 19th century Chinese miners that braved a perilous sea journey followed by a long trek across southern Australia to the new goldfields of Bendigo and Ballarat.

Langi Morgala Museum
Reflecting the nineteenth century history of Ararat, the museum displays a large collection of photographs, clothing and farm machinery from the gold mining rush of 1856.
The Museum's Aboriginal name translates as "home of yesterday".

Miners Ridge Wines
Nestled on a gentle ridge in the foothills of Western Victoria’s Grampians region, Miners Ridge Wines is home to some of the region’s finest wines.
After many years of producing grapes for other wineries, Andrew and Katrina have taken small parcels of their finest fruit and crafted some wine to reflect their site.

The breakfast was excellent and Sandy & Rob were excellent in their care and attentiveness to our needs. The location was terrific in that it was right in the center town. Parking was easy and plentiful. The accommodation felt very secure.
We love the atmosphere of The Barkly Bistro Bar & always compliments to the Chef for our dinners! Love listening to the live music from upstairs in bed, very relaxing! .
